Metamorphoses

Indiana University, Wells-Metz Theatre

Director: John Maness
Set Designer: Hyunsuk Shin
Costume Designer: Erica Griese

Black and White textures and patterns were projected on multi-colored banners at different depths to evoke the natural themes of individual myths, such as this tree in the story of Baucis and Philemon. Animated solar flares were projected over Apollo, the sun god, for a subtle effect under the stage lighting during the Phaeton scene.

The Real Thing

Director: Bruce Burgun
Set Designers: Fred Duer and David Foster
Lighting Designer: Rob Shakespeare

In the first scene transition, swiriling snow, as from a snowglobe, radiated out from center stage until it filled the projection area, when it morphed into television static, then clicked off as the next scene began.
Subsequent scene transitions used projections of animated abstract geometry broken up into a pattern of round pixels, and were accompanied by pop music from the 1960s.
